TW Slammy Awards 2021

Match of the Year: Kenny Omega vs Hangman Page (Full Gear)

A vincere quest’anno è il match di Full Gear, che non a caso vedeva di fronte Kenny Omega e Hangman Page, che l’anno scorso avevano trionfato nei nostri Slammy Awards come tag team dell’anno. Senza togliere agli altri incontri (come al solito parliamo di capolavori assoluti, vale la pena recuperarli tutti). Il match ha dalla sua una delle storyline più convincenti dell’anno, ovvero la scalata verso la vetta di Hangman Page; un lancio certamente importante, ma che è stato completato da una qualità sul ring eccelsa, una suspence notevole ed una atmosfera che si è vista solo in pochissimi altri incontri.

PPV/Takeover of the Year: AEW Full Gear

E’ importante come nelle votazioni emerga una nutrita varietà di eventi. Tanti eventi WWE (ed è una cosa piuttosto rara negli ultimi anni), ma anche tanti eventi AEW, naturalmente tenuto conto di come i pay per view di questa compagnia siano significativamente meno. Un bel segnale, indubbiamente. A vincere è Full Gear, che può beneficiare non soltanto di quello che abbiamo votato come match dell’anno, ma anche di una card decisamente solida ed accattivante. FTR contro Lucha Bros, Britt Baker contro Tay Conti, Christian con Jungle Boy e Luchasaurus contro Adam Cole e i Bucks, e perchè no, anche i match di Bryan Danielson e Miro, i due grandi acquisti della AEW per questo 2021. Tanta roba, e riconoscimento decisamente meritato.

Face of the Year: Hangman Page

La più classica delle scalate del successo partendo dal basso. Il 2021 di Hangman Page è stato decisamente questo, un conquistare la vetta con il completo, totale e fragoroso supporto del pubblico. La stessa strada dell’allora Daniel Bryan, non a caso vincitore di questo award, la stessa di Kofi Kingston, non a caso vincitore anche lui, e perchè no anche la stessa di Big E, di poco secondo quest’anno.

Heel of the Year: Roman Reigns

Parliamoci chiaro: se mi avessero chiesto di indicare un podio per questa categoria, allora avrei messo al primo posto Roman Reigns, al secondo il Tribal Chief ed al terzo The Head of the Table. Con tutto il rispetto di un comunque ottimo MJF, Roman Reigns ha semplicemente monopolizzato la categoria dei “cattivi” per questo 2021. Con l’aiuto non da poco di Paul Heyman, per carità, ma ben difficilmente Reigns avrebbe potuto trovare dei concreti rivali per la vittoria di quest’anno.
