Modificato qualcosina: messi i B-Team come peggior tag team e Nakamura come delusione. Gran battaglia per il peggior wrestler ma ho tenuto EC3 a discapito di Corbin alla fine.

BEST OF 2018

Wrestler of the year: Johnny Gargano. Ha battuto sul filo la mia scelta "mark" AJ Styles. Annata inappuntabile per lui, dall'inizio alla fine. Costruito perfettamente, ha regalato match eccelsi, i migliori dell'annata.

Tag Team of the year: Undisputed Era. Scelta markissima. Lasciando stare l'agonia del Main Roster, l'UE è sempre stata sugli scudi per tutto l'anno sfoderando un match più bello dell'altro.

Match of the year: Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa Last Man Standing Match da Takeover Brooklyn 4. Tra tutti i gioielli targati Gargano scelgo quello che più mi ha fatto saltare dalla sedia.

Feud of the year: Gargano vs Ciampa.

Face of the year: AJ Styles. Quante volte ho detto che personalmente è il pro-wrestler degli anni '10?

Heel of the year: Tommaso Ciampa. Un Internet Darling capace di farsi odiare.

Rookie of the year: Rhonda Rousey. A me piace un casino e fomenta altrettanto. Non ci fosse stato Gargano avrebbe monopolizzato buona parte dei miei Awards assieme a Becky Lynch.

Newcomer of the year: Ricochet. Non gli davo un euro.

Best female: Becky Lynch. Straordinaria ed "empatica".

Best in-ring performer: Johnny Gargano.

Male wrestler of the year: Masashi Takeda
Dopo anni passati a sperare che la BJW lo rendesse campione, finalmente quest’anno siamo stati accontentati. Un grandissimo regno da campione deathmatch: con Kodaka e Tsukamoto le perle, ma alla fine tutti i match sono stati di alto livello. Regno da campione Freedoms impreziosito dal solito derby con Kasai, sempre ottimo.
Female wrestler of the year: Miyu Yamashita
Un anno campionessa sempre con la storia giusta. I match da +1 carucci e quelli davvero importanti molto buoni e soprattutto con una grande storia e una grande costruzione.
Tag team of the year: Violent Giants (Shuji Ishikawa & Suwama)
Rookie of the year: Utami Hayashishita
Ho difeso da subito il push alla judoka Stardom, anche se sono andati vicini a saltare lo squalo qualche volta, tipo alla finale del 5SGP. Comunque è migliorata assai in pochissimo tempo e vedo che anche chi all’inizio la criticava sta iniziando a ricredersi. Nessuno partendo da 0 ha fatto meglio.

Grande face, i migliori match dell’anno della Stardom sono suoi. Io c’ero quando arrivava vestita da giocatrice di softball con la mazza e provava a colpire la palla, lisciando clamorosamente il 90% delle volte, grandissimo salto di qualità.

Ci sono stati alcuni match con un voto più alto, ma questo ha il merito di non aver seguito i soliti schemi da grande match puro e joshi.

Show of the year: TJP Yes! Wonderland ~ Break Myself! ~ 03/05/2018

Ricollegandomi a feud of the year e show of the year, rilancio le candidature a UOTY e most competent ricordando quanto scrissi come presentazione di quello show, con quella rivalità, e come analisi dopo dello show stesso.

A proposito di TJP, il punto sulla situazione. Dall’altra volta che ne ho parlato la zombie Maho Kurone è stata sconfitta dalla campionessa Miyu Yamashita in un altro buon match, e le NEO Biishiki-gun Saki-sama & Azusa Christie hanno sconfitto la coppia formata da Yuu e Nodoka –oneesan e continuano a dettare legge nella categoria tag.

Fondamentalmente gli show dell’ultimo mesetto ruotano sulla storia di Marika Kobashi contro le NEO Biishiki-gun e su quella di Rika Tatsumi sfidante al titolo Tokyo Princess di Miyu Yamashita.
Per quanto riguarda la storia dei titoli tag, Marika Kobashi è una lowcarder, anche scarsina rispetto al resto, ma è stata scritta da underdog che decide di rispondere e sfidare Saki-sama & Azusa Christie, che l’hanno presa di mira, e potersi vendicare dei numerosi insulti e del trash talking delle due mistress:

Saki-sama joined in and added a bunch of insults. If Saki is a swan flying in the sky then Kobashi is a crow inside a trash can. If Saki is a beautiful and blooming rose then Kobashi is a fake flower selling for 5 yen.

Per fare questo ha ricevuto l’aiuto della campionessa Miyu, che si è detta pronta ad aiutarla. Il match che ne è risultato il 21/03 è stato breve (11 minuti) ma comunque buono e funzionale alla storia. Marika ancora sconfitta e insultata è salvata da Reika Saiki, la Kinnikun Idol, prodotto della scuola di wrestling della W-1 e top name TJP, tornata da poco da una breve pausa. Reika sfida il le NEO Biishiki-gun, ma non con Miyu, sua ex tag partner, ma con Marika. Da qua negli show successivi la Kobashi ha fatto due singles match contro Miyu e Reika come test in vista del match, che sarà all’evento al Korakuen, perdendo. Ora Reika sta allenando intensamente la compagna in vista del match.

Per quanto riguarda il match per il titolo principale, Rika Tatsumi si è fatta avanti come sfidante perché delusa della sconfitta dell’amica zombie e desiderosa di dimostrare di non essere una perdente. Il punto è dimostrare di essere al livello delle top ed una tosta, e per fare questo si è anche tagliata da sola i capelli, come gesto dimostrativo simbolico per segnare una svolta e cambiamento. Contando anche che la stessa cosa la fece Tatsumi Fujinami prima di andare contro Vader, e che anche lei è Tatsumi e che anche lei è dragon, White Dragon è infatti il suo soprannome.

In pratica però negli show successivi le ha prese quando ha incrociato la campionessa, fino a quando domenica scorsa l’ha clamorosamente fatta svenire con la dragon sleeper. Ora arriva lanciata allo show al korakuen. Per il resto nel lowcard le Up Up Girls sez. wrestling ancora stentano anche se sono sempre aiutate da Yuka Sakazaki e Shoko Nakajima. Comunque produrranno uno show con le loro Idol vere e proprie al Shunjuku FACE a fine giugno, per la rabbia di Maki Ito.

La Ito respect army ha reclutato Saki dalle Actwres girl’Z e proprio Maki Ito continua a spaccare come personaggio e carisma, tra progetto idol, servizi fotografici, maglie personalizzate, e zingarate nel main roster DDT a combattere contro Makoto Oishi. Continua a essere costruita sulla losing streak comunque.



Hyper Misao ha continuato a fare comedy tra ricerca di una tag partner, svolta moralizzatrice e scherzi. Ma dopo una sconfitta in un recente show delusa ha raccontato in lacrime come si è avvicinata al wrestling grazie ad uno show street wrestling della DDT e perciò per riscattarsi vuole combattere uno street wrestling match al Korakuen. Boss Sanshiro Takagi l’ha dunque messa in un match contro Jun Kasai!! Altro in vista dello show, Su Yung farà coppia con la zombie Kurone contro il tag Shoko Nakajima & Yuka Sakazaki, Yuna Manase ritorna dal brutto infortunio e ci sarà il match di debutto di Yuki Aino, che finora ha fatto la ring annuncer. Bene l'opener sempre considerando le basse aspettative riposte nel gruppo di idol/wrestler. Yuna Manase al rientro dall'infortunio le guida ottimamente e tiene i fili del match, bene il suo ritorno. Nel match successivo invece è stata Yuu a guidare la debuttante ex annunciatrice Yuki Aino, molto emozionata, match ok.

Maki Ito vs Riho bene il match dopo le provocazioni che si erano lanciate. Comunque il punto è stato sulla storia di Maki che dopo l'ennesima sconfitta inizia a dubitare di se stessa. Tanto che nel post match arriva a sciogliere la Ito Respect Army, ma Mizuki la ferma dicendole che sarà sempre al suo fianco aldilà delle sconfitte con tanto di abbraccio finale. Ottimo momento e passo in avanti per il personaggio della Ito, sicuramente la più over al Korakuen.

Comedy ok nel match con Su Yung. Mi aspettavo peggio dalla tanto temuta Yung, invece tra spot comedy con le Miraclianz spaventate dalle zombie discreti e sequenze passabili, anche se in realtà non così fluide con Su, alla fine il match ha fatto il suo. Poi bene la partenza del mini feud tra loro chiuso il 5 in un match singolo comunque discreto, niente di incredibile, si vede che più di tanto la Yung non può fare, ha un pessimo acting e con un pessimo timig ha fatto alcuni errori, brava comunque Maho a trascinarla. Per questo show ne ha fatto le spese arbitro Matsui

Misao vs Kasai molto buono. Ha un po' di tutto, parti comedy divertenti tipo il mangiare cioccolatini per avere il diritto di schienare, con Kasai ovviamente sfavorito essendo mezzo sdentato, spot anche rischiosi presi dalla Misao, tra giri in bici, tavoli rotti e pearl harbor splash dalla scala, con un finale poi più concreto. Tra i tanti spot secondo me quello in cui ha rischiato di più è questo, in particolare per il braccio incastrato sul manubrio.

E anche qui non ha scherzato

Storia di Hyper di redempion dalle origini della sua passione per il wrestling raccontata molto bene. Adesso voglio il ritorno con Kasai, ovviamente in FREEDOMS

Tag basato sulla storia di Marika Kobashi underdog che riceve l'insperato aiuto e allenamento della Kinnikun Idol Saiki Reika, come hanno raccontato nelle settimane precedenti. Da questo il duo NEO BG che domina in lungo e in largo anche grazie al maggiore affiatamento con Reika che si prende l'hot tag e fa piazza pulita prima di essere anche lei sopraffatta dalle manovre combinate delle campionesse. Alla fine il finale con Azusa che ride e sottovaluta la Kobashi e viene per questo fregata con un pin from out of nowhere ci sta bene sempre per tutta la storia del feud. Azusa impazzisce visto il rapporto morboso con entrambe le cinture.

Il main event ha avuto una grande costruzione, e non ha deluso.



Partono in modo classico con scambi a terra ma subito la Tatsumi punta alla gamba sinistra per provare ad azzoppare la campionessa e arginare i calci in stile karate tipici della sua offensiva. Anche Miyu applica alcune sottomissioni ma si capisce come la sfidante oggi sia tosta da spezzare. Il resto del match prosegue molto bene con protagonista Rika che continua a martoriare la gamba, fa alcuni errori e viene punita, piazza la dragon sleeper che significa molto in questo feud e in generale da tutto fino alla fine. Finale col tipico crescendo molto buono con la campionessa portata al limite dalla tenacia della sfidante. Davvero bene, hanno preso una midcarder e con una grande costruzione e un grande match l'hanno elevata parecchio di status e come personaggio, visto che prima di tutta la storia non aveva mai detto chissacchè. Unica pecca, magari ci sarebbe voluta qualche pausa in più per vendere meglio tutto il lavoro sulla gamba.

Ottimo show, tutto è stato funzionale alle storyline e i match non hanno deluso.

Le legnate date e ricevute sono state notevoli. Appassionante la vittoria della Tripla.
Technique Award: Shotaro Ashino
Il Kurt Angle giapponese metallaro con la panzitta. Il feud con Manabu Soya a livello di match è stato il migliore dell’anno. E in W-1! Vale doppio. Ripeto ancora: se i due si fossero chiamati Okada o Suzuki la gente si sarebbe strappata le vesti in strada dalla gioia a vedere i loro match.
