Tag Team of the year: Penso seriamente che la tag division della AEW sia una delle cose più sopravvalutate di sempre.
Feud of the year: Cody vs QT Marshall e la Nightmare Factory. Seriamente FAT MIKE, cerchi tutte le possibili sovrinterpretazioni del mondo in The Lady e poi voti questo come peggior feud? Col manierismo del match Cody vs QT che scatena il turn di quest'ultimo? Con la scena della tentata decapitazione con la sedia a mo' di ghigliottina e quell'altra implorante ai piedi delle scalette? Un match di passaggio come quello con Ogogo non può annichilire tutto il bello che c'è stato. QT ha guadagnato un posto nel mio cuore con questo feud.

Anche quest'anno i premi sono in stile Tokyosports, ma con la solita aggiunta di best promotion, show of the year e most improved.

MVP: Utami Hayashishita. È stato l'anno della sua consacrazione. Non tanto, o meglio non solo, per i match molto belli e per il regno da campionessa World of Stardom, ma proprio per come si è comportata in questi match. Ha dimostrato, infatti, di avere la maturità necessaria per il ruolo ricoperto e di poter condurre match impostati in modo diverso, superando le vecchie critiche di essere monotematica e una "Reigns joshi". Io ricordo sempre che è dai tempi di Io Shirai che in Stardom non si vede un selling così buono (anche se ancora non siamo ai livello di Io). E poi è una superstar, pochi cazzi.

Best Bout: Utami Hayashishita (c) vs. Syuri, 12.06.2021. La dimosazione di quanto detto sopra abbinata a una Syuri in forma come non mai, reduce da due anni clamorosi. Poi per i dettagli se ne è parlato nel relativo topic e rimando lì.

Best Tag Team: Los Negociantes. Fresero jr. e Demonio Infernal si prendono il premio spuntandola di poco sulle Azure Revolution. Ho scelto loro perché i buonissimi primi mesi dell'IWRG sono da attribuire alle loro cose, con le rissone ignoranti contro tutti e per come è uscito l'hair match tra Fresero e Eterno, che ha regalato momenti da ricordare sul ring e fuori. Anche dopo la fuoriuscita da Naucalpan e la fusione con Las Traumas hanno fatto bene in giro. Sempre le stesse cose, è vero, ma almeno sempre divertenti. E poi non era facile visto che tutti sono nella lista nera dei promotores in qualche modo affiliati nel gruppo con l'IWRG. Anche qui, però, come in altri premi sotto, la concorrenza non era così agguerrita.

Best Luchador: Hechicero. Premio che sostituisce quello femminile di Tokyo sports. Lui perchè l'alchimista del ring è l'unico che un minimo è emerso nel CMLL e ha migliorato il suo status. Finalmente, a forza di insistere a Informa, anche grazie all'addio degli NGD, è riuscito a convincere la programacion a riformare Los Infernales e la robetta con Ultimo Guerrero è stata l'unica cosa che un po' ha smosso il torpore all'Arena Mexico, tra il ritorno di Satanico e la sfida UG vs smartoni. Poca roba ma questo è stato, se non vogliamo premiare solo chi ha fatto i match che hanno risaltato di più ma con poca storia dietro. E comunque Hechicero anche al microfono, tra interviste, promo e ospite al commento, ha dimostrato di essere un luchadorazo completo, vero Hombre que nació para luchar.

Best Promotion: AAA. “La Triple A miglior promocion? Oh ma itte ses tottu callonis o imbriagu (direbbe Cibernetico the Casteddarzu Man)! Molla su fiascu de abbardente gompà”. Sì ok Cyber, ma va contestualizato. La AAA ha fatto le solite (tante) cose sceme sue, che ha nel dna, ma almeno ci ha provato costruendo più situazioni dove il CMLL ha inserito il pilota automatico con, senza esagerare, almeno una quindicina di tornei di ogni tipo e la pigrizia totale. Le puntate settimanali su Space della AAA sono sempre state divertenti e godibili e hanno costruito molto bene Psycho Clown vs Rey Escorpion (cavando le rape da una rivalità così sbilanciata), anche se poi il match a TripleMania non ha rispettato le aspettative. Premio la AAA anche per la poca concorrenza, visto che l'IWRG è stata troppo scostante e in Giappone alcune hanno tenuto buoni standard (Ice Ribbon, ero indeciso infatti tra Roldan e loro) e altre hanno fatto vedere i soliti problemi (TJPW). La Stardom ha fatto bene in tanti periodi dall'anno (più che altro in show singoli, non che come storie abbiano fatto il botto), ma ha anche presentato scelte discutibili come il puntare troppo su alcune lottatrici che hanno limiti enormi (Saya, Unagi, Mina...) e l'abbandonare definitivamente lo sviluppo di talenti interni preferendo prendere altri prospetti da fuori, non sempre all'altezza (Waka and company). Di puroresu, diciamo maschile, ho visto poco e a pezzi ma mi pare che, forse la DDT esclusa, federazioni come la All Japan e la BJW siano state un po' troppo more of the same (ma da lodare le zingarate in All Japan di Kasai e di Drew Parker in Big Japan). In Dragon Gate, poi, ho l'impressione che i nuovi prospetti non siano neanche lontanamente al livello della vecchia guardia. Ho seguito poco, dunque son giudizi da prendere con le pinze, ma uno Shun Skywalker campione (per quanto possa essere bravo tecnicamente etc.. come volete) non si può proprio vedere come personaggio.

Best Event: Hana Kimura memorial “Matane”. Lo show della Stardom al Nippon Budokan di marzo è stato molto buono, con un opener frizzante, un Syuri/Konami che ho adorato, gli ottimi Momo/Nanae e Mayu/Yoshiko, un raro match decente di Saya Kamitani, il grandissimo Tam vs Giulia e una battle royal divertente con il ritorno di Yuzuki Aikawa (Single moment of the year per me). Però anche lo show per Hana ha avuto tutto questo, con una battle royal ancora più divertente e fuori di testa, due tag molto godibili e un ASUKA vs Kagetsu sentitissimo. Il video tributo alla sfortunata Hana, in particolare le scene di lei bambina mentre la madre lotta insanguinata con Abdullah Kobayashi, è stato uno dei momenti più emozionanti dell'anno.

Tecqnique Award: Arez. È stato un ottimo anno per il King of strange style, con tanti match di lucha classica pura o di llaveo estremo abbinato all'high flying spettacolare, come visto nel matchino con Aramis in MLW. In generale almeno un paio dei migliori mano a mano dell'anno messicani sono suoi, ovvero quello con Laredo Kid in AAA e quello con Hijo de Vikingo in RIOT (e devo ancora prendere lo show in cui ha fatto il match con Latigo, sempre in RIOT). Certo, paga l'essere un lowcarder da opener svolazzosi della AAA e dunque è difficile vederlo impiegato in rivalità epiche ad ampio respiro, ma da questo punto di vista non è stato un anno positivo per la lucha tutta, anche perché per il grosso dell'anno non c'era il pubblico dunque nessuno poteva spendere per far cadere maschere interessanti o capelli pesanti. E non ci si è nemmeno avvicinati al picco di Villano III jr. vs Aereo dello scorso anno. Intanto Arez ha consolidato lo status da santone delle indies, come direbbe Horace, e va bene così.

Performance Award: Chris Brooks. Non riesco a immaginare nessun altro capace di tenere un livello di performance così alto in tutti i contesti in cui ha combattuto. Dalla bella storia con Lulu Pencil nei materassini in Gatoh Move per arrivare ai tag con Maki Itoh, ai main event seri in DDT e al D-Ou Grand Prix, senza però disdegnare i deathmatch con i giocattoli contro Shunma o la sfida a Mecha Mummy (anche se il match di Misao con la mummia >> quello dell'inglese). Sono sicuro che se avesse voluto avrebbe potuto fare anche un bel deathmatch in stile BJW con l'amico Drew Parker.

Fighting Spirit: Tsukushi Haruka. La piccoletta più assassina del joshi puro ha finalmente ritrovato i livelli di garra, cattiveria e intensità di prima dell'arresto. Semplicemente inarrivabile sotto questo punto di vista. A parte nel match recente con Tsukasa, anche all'Arena Mexico ha fatto vedere di avere una marcia in più rispetto a tutte le altre, e benché in Messico quella venduta come la più forte fosse Tsukka (giustamente), la tappetta è senza dubbio quella che genuinamente ha risaltato di più come lavoro sul ring.

Best Rookie: Yuki Arai. La idol SKE48 tutta sorrisi (scemi) e canzoni è stata una delle sorprese più positive, in generale e in Tokyo Joshi. È stata gestita nel modo classico da rookie, ma da parte sua, anche con consapevolezza dei proprio limiti, è riuscita a far emergere il suo carisma e a migliorare piano piano. L'interazione con Aja Kong era stata oro e le recenti imprese con la White Dragon e con Miyu mi hanno convinto della bontà del suo lavoro.

Most Improved: Stephanie Vaquer. La cilena mas ruda e mas bonita quest'anno ha avuto più spazio nell'anno molto positivo della divisione femminile del CMLL e lo ha sfruttato. Ha fatto bene anche nelle apparizioni in giro da indipendente, come in AULL, dove è campionessa. Il volto dell'annata femenil Consejo resta Dark Silueta, ma brava brava Step. Da segnalare anche i progressi di Atlantis Jr.

Wrestler: Cody, tutto quello che fa cade nello sticazzi.
Tag team: Oedo Tai, non sono un tag team ma una stable. Esclusa Starlight Kid ( ) puzzano di sfiga da anni
Match: il 99% dei match che ho visto tra WWE, AEW, Impact, MLW, ROH ed indy varie mi ha fatto schifo, quindi sceglietene uno a caso
Promotion: PROGRESS. Faccio una premessa, secondo me è stata la migliore federazione di wrestling degli anni ‘10 poi un po’ per il COVID, un po’ per lo speaking out ed un po’ per la WWE che ha ucciso la scena europea l’annata della federazione inglese è stata abbastanza inguardabile. Costretta a lottare in uno scantinato e senza pubblico dando l’impressione di una indy di quinta fascia; poi qualche match buono l’hanno tirato fuori (su tutti quelli con Cara Noir e Ridgeway protagonisti), ma il gusto di amaro in bocca quando la guardo è forte
Diva: Nina Jax, finalmente la WWE l’ha licenziata prima che ammazzasse qualcuna sul ring
Overrated: Britt Baker, mediocre sul ring e anche nello extra non mi dice niente
Underrated: tutto il roster di NXT UK, a mani basse il miglior show televisivo e l’unico per cui ho hype nel vedere
Worst treatment: Sammy Guevara, penso che il suo title reign sia esplicativo
Most disappointing: Andrade El Idolo, lascia la WWE dove era un midcarder per andare in AEW dove ricopre lo stesso identico ruolo
