Penso che l'UFC abbia fatto la scelta giusta con Mir e tuttosommato è anche giusto far slittare la card e non dare a Velasquez un avversario improvvisato.
Per quanto riguarda il match titolato sarebbe secondo me assolutamente ingiusto sottovalutare le possibilità di Frank, a differenza degli avversari che Dos Santos ha impilato penso che Mir sarà assolutamente concentrato sul portare il match a terra o contro la gabbia, strategia su cui non si sono certo focalizzati Cain e Shane, forse un po' troppo convinti del loro striking.
Certo JDS le poche volte in cui ci ha dovuto provare, ha sempre dimostrato una solida takedown defence, ma sicuramente lotterà con maggior timore in piedi temendo il game plan dell'avversario.

Il problema è che in passato Mir si è fin troppo concentrato sullo striking e restare in piedi, con Brock e Crocop per dirne 2...

Dal 96 a oggi è davvero dura poter far una lista di "migliori Eventi". Ci sono stati anni spettacolari dove quasi tutti i pvp hanno almeno 2-3 match mitici, ad anni in cui si salvano pochi pvp all'anno.

Conta poi che negli ultimi 4-5 anni, gli eventi UFC sono aumentati a dismisura, tra PVP, special su varie emittenti, UFN, etc etc etc.

Ti consiglio di fissarti con un tot numero di atleti e da li cercare tutti i loro match: così incatenerai tutta una serie di sfidanti di cui vorrai conoscere di più... e poi altri... e poi altri

Peccato, è sfumato quello che sarebbe stato quasi sicuramente l'evento più epico della storia UFC.

Mir innamorato del suo striking fino ad un certo punto, forse con Lesnar ma perché poteva pensare di essergli superiore. Con Nelson e Cro Cop di certo non ha cercato lo striking ma ha pressato gli avversari contro la gabbia cercando di annoiarli a morte, e con il croato ci è riuscito (o forse era una ginocchiata).

Silva vs. Sonnen II a Las Vegas perde moltissimo rispetto a Rio. Purtroppo questo dimostra anche come l'UFC debba crescere ancora molto prima di poter diventare un grandissimo organismo sportivo. Come si può annunciare per mesi che l'incontro si sarebbe tenuto in Brasile, fare la conferenza stampa lì e poi bookare l'incontro a Las Vegas? Questo 2012 sta diventando una strage per l'UFC. Non so quanti dream match siano saltati per colpa di cattiva organizzazione, sfortuna e fighters ignoranti (Nick Diaz e Overeem). Direi che è ora di porre qualche rimedio.

It has today been reported that the much anticipated middleweight title rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will be moved to the UFC 148 event on July 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada, after failing to secure the right kind of venue to host this fight in Brazil.

UFC President, Dana White attended a press conference today in Brazil flanked by Silva and Sonnen and explained the promotion had encountered many problems when it came to making the fight happen in the South American country. He revealed that after failing to host the fight in a soccer stadium the only other option was to move it to Las Vegas, the fight capital of the world.

The UFC 148 event was set to be headlined by the bantamweight title clash between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber but this is now expected to serve as the co-main event of the evening in perhaps the biggest event of the year. Wanderlei Silva vs. Vitor Belfort is expected to still headline UFC 147 somewhere in Brazil, although it was also mentioned featherweight champion, Jose Aldo could be moved to this card.

The two men met back at UFC 117 with Sonnen dominating the champion for four and a half rounds, taking the fight to the ground in each and every round. With two minutes left on the clock Silva slapped on a triangle choke to force the tap, retaining his title in the process. Sonnen booked his rematch with wins over Brian Stann and Michael Bisping.

UFC 149 – Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira returns from injury to face Cheick Kongo on July 21st in Calgary, Alberta, Canada

A mammoth heavyweight clash between Brazilian submission artist and multi-time world champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and French stand-up artist, Cheick Kongo has today been revealed for the UFC 149 card set for July 21st in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The news was revealed by the Calgary Sun earlier today citing numerous unnamed sources. It is thought at least verbal agreements are in place on both sides.

Nogueira is no doubt in the twilight years of his career but proved there was fight in the old dog yet when he defeated Brendan Schaub last August via TKO following a long stint out due to injury. He returned just a few month later to rematch Frank Mir and was submitted in the first round via kimura, having his arm snapped in the process.

As for Kongo, the Frenchman continues to flatter to deceive in his octagon career, losing last time out to Mark Hunt via first round TKO. Prior to that he’d defeated Pat Barry and Matt Mitrione to begin another run at the divisions title.

Bellator middleweight champion, Hector Lombard signs with the UFC

A source close to the Cuban/Australian national confirmed the news to MMABay earlier this evening, adding the offer was just too good from the Zuffa owned promotion to turn down. Bellator were unable to match the offer on the table.

We have been speculating for weeks that Lombard could be paired with UK stand-out, Michael Bisping in his promotional debut after both men serve as coaches on the forthcoming TUF: Australia vs. UK series which will begin filming in the latter part of the summer.

Lombard is fresh off a second round TKO win of former Strikeforce veteran, Trevor Prangley at a catch weight of 195 pounds, further demonstrating the kind of power the Cuban native has in his hands.

In effetti davvero una magra figura per l'UFC, mi spiace per Silva che rispetto alle altre top star mi sembra venga sempre maltrattato (per lo meno per uno del suo livello). Comunque spero che non ci siano altri intoppi per questo match, obiettivamente è un incontro di grande richiamo e uno di quelli che sento maggiormente, anche se sono piuttosto pessimista sull'esito, Anderson è vecchiotto e Chael sta volta sarà molto attento.

Lombard rischia di aprire la strada ad un grande esodo, Alvarez sembra essere il prossimo e per me sarebbe il caso di cercare con insistenza Conrad.

Kongo vs Nog lo temo molto, rischia fortemente di essere l'ultimo match di Minotauro nell'ottagono, il francese è piuttosto discontinuo ma se lo prendi nella serata sbagliata sono cazzi e il chin del pluricampione brasiliano ormai è un pallido ricordo di quello del passato.

Sonnen è fino tko 2 volte in carriera per infortuni o tagli, non è uno facilmente finalizzabile e Anderson ha la peggior takedown tra i top fighter della federazione. Chael per me ha grandissime possibilità, putroppo.

UFC 148: Dana White Had To Work Hard (And Pay) To Convince Anderson Silva To Fight In Vegas


Anderson Silva was expecting to rematch Chael Sonnen at UFC 147 in Brazil, but a series of snags, culminating in a United Nations conference that was going to cause logistical issues resulted in the fight being moved to UFC 148 in Las Vegas. According to a story on Fighters Only Magazine, Silva wasn't thrilled to not be able to try to shut Chael's mouth in his home country, but it sounds like money and a plea from Dana was enough to change his mind.

It took the UFC president 75 minutes to convince him to fight Chael Sonnen in Las Vegas instead of Rio de Janeiro and this was the reason for the press conference delay yesterday, reports Gustavo Noblat of OGlobo.com.

The champion was frustrated and insisted on fighting in Brazil. Anderson told Dana that Sonnen had been disrespectful with him, his family and all the Brazilian. "He deserves to taught a lesson here, I owe this to my people", repeated Silva. But Dana was adamant. "If there is no way how to make the event in a stadium, it has to be in Las Vegas," said the company president.

He spoke about the potential of the Pay-per-view sales it would generate and in the end, he guaranteed a good percentage of the pay-per-view share to Anderson. As with so many things in life, money talks louder than anything.
It's a little bit hard for me to believe that Dana flew in for a press conference, with printed materials and a plan to speak to the media but was still trying to work out the details with Silva backstage before the fight.
That said, it's not a stretch to think that Silva had major reservations about having to travel once again to defend his title and not have the honor of taking care of business in Brazil.

It sounds like Silva is also upset with IMX, the company that promotes the Brazilian UFC events. Statements in the article suggest that Silva is blaming them for the poor organization that led to the event falling apart.
