* Hiroshi Tanahashi becomes the first wrestler to ever hold the IWGP Heavyweight Title seven times after beating AJ Styles in today’s main event. He had been tied on 6 reigns with Tatsumi Fujinami and now not only does he have the most successful defenses, but the most reigns. A living legend? Perhaps he may not be given such a status until later in his career, but as a man with so much success and the figurehead of New Japan’s revival, it isn’t a stretch to consider him a legend already.

* Guess who’s back? Naofumi “Yoshi Tatsu” Yamamoto appeared to save Tanahashi from a Jeff Jarrett guitar shot. The New Japan dojo graduate looks to have returned home following his WWE exit some time back. Yamamoto last appeared for New Japan on 11/2/07 at Korakuen Hall, so his return comes after almost 7 years away.

* Tanahashi is set to face old rival Kazuchika Okada in the 1/4 Tokyo Dome main event, after Okada retained his #1 contendership by beating Tetsuya Naito in the semi final. Tanahashi and Okada’s match was confirmed so unless of any unexpected events that will headline the next “WRESTLE KINGDOM”.

* Tomohiro Ishii regained the NEVER Openweight Title from Yujiro Takahashi, the man who took it from him, and so begins his second reign.

* After a tag success today, Katsuyori Shibata challenged Shinsuke Nakamura for a shot at his IWGP Intercontinental Title, a match many would be pleased to see, especially if they save it for the Tokyo Dome.

* Ryusuke Taguchi’s long awaited second reign as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion avoided the same fate as KUSHIDA’s first, as he bypassed his first challenger, forcing El Desperado to tap out.

* Time Splitters retained the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title for the third time in a 3WAY Match, beating the Young Bucks and Forever Hooligans when KUSHIDA rolled up Koslov.

* The legendary Tenzan & Kojima dropped the NWA World Tag Team Title, won in the same building this April, as their old nemesis’ the Killer Elite Squad returned and took the belts from them.

* BUSHI failed to win the NWA World Jr. Title from Chase Owens and after that match the NWA’s Bruce Tharpe called out the great Jushin Thunder Liger. Liger said he wanted one last run with a title, hinting that perhaps finally retirement is on the mind (NOOOO!), and he could be next to challenge Owens.

Annunciati i primi tre match per "POWER STRUGGLE 2014", l'evento NJPW dell'8 novembre ad Osaka:

- Naofumi Yamamoto dopo 7 anni ritornerà a lottare in NJPW, usando il ring name Yoshi Tatsu, per affrontare AJ Styles.

- Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kota Ibushi vs. Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI sarà di fatto un match di "preludio" allo scontro titolato di "WRESTLE KINGDOM 9", Tanahashi vs. Okada per la cintura IWGP Heavyweight.

- Shinsuke Nakamura difenderà la cintura IWGP Intercontinental affrontando Katsuyori Shibata.

Il 4 gennaio 2015 al Tokyo Dome il 7 volte campione dei pesi massimi affronterà il vincitore del G1 Climax 24, ennesimo capitolo di una rivalità iniziata nel 2012.

La NJPW ha annunciato il SUPER Jr. Tag Tournament 2014, il torneo ad eliminazione diretta tra coppie di lottatori Jr. Heavyweight. La competizione andrà in scena nel corso del tour “POWER STRUGGLE”, nello specifico negli show del 25 ottobre e dei primi tre giorni di novembre.
Nella lista dei partecipanti spicca la presenza di Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish della RoH, e di Fuego e Mascara Dorada della CMLL che faranno rispettivamente coppia con Ryusuke Taguchi e BUSHI.

Katsuyori Shibata parteciperà a tutte le date del tour “POWER STRUGGLE”. Dopo circa 10 anni l'ex-Makai #4 ritornerà “on the road” con la federazione che lo ha visto debuttare nel mondo del pro-wrestling. Shibata lotterà nei main event, a partire dallo show del 25 ottobre, al fianco di Hiroshi Tanahashi e degli altri membri della “NJPW Home Unit” contro la stable CHAOS, in vista ovviamente del match contro Shinsuke Nakamura per il titolo IWGP Intercontinental.

Yoshitatsu è pronto ad entrare nel grande giro della NJPW. Intervistato dal Tokyo Sport, l'ex-lottatore della WWE ha spiegato che l'intervento in favore di Hiroshi Tanahashi, salvato da un attacco ad opera di Jeff Jarrett, non è stato un gesto di semplice “altruismo” ma un messaggio all'intera federazione.
Yoshitatsu vuole dimostrare ai suoi connazionali di essere al livello di Tanahashi e Shinsuke Nakamura, per questo ha deciso di colpire il BULLET CLUB, la stable heel più odiata del momento, per mettere in luce le sue capacità ed accattivarsi il pubblico nipponico.
Il wrestler assicura di essere migliorato molto in questi 7 anni passati negli USA, di essere un atleta diverso da quel Naofumi Yamamoto (il suo vero nome) che abbandonò la NJPW nel 2007, per questo ha deciso di conservare il ring name (con una lieve variazione per motivi di copyright) utilizzato in WWE, e si è portato dietro anche i quattro titoli vinti ed attualmente detenuti in Florida tra SCW (Southern Championship Wrestling) e Pro Wrestling RIOT.
