Frank Mir pretty pumped that the Strikeforce heavyweights are heading to the UFC

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Frank Mir has revealed he’s looking forward to fighting the best Strikeforce has to offer after it was revealed the California based promotions crop of talent will soon be heading to the octagon, adding the age old question of who’s the best in the world will finally be answered.

Speaking via ESPN, Mir said:
“I think it’s only a benefit to move them over to us. I guess I have a bad taste in my mouth because of what happened when I first started my career. I had to always hear about ‘oh, you guys are good, but the PRIDE guys would kick your butt.’ And then that frustration of not being able to get to them. I don’t want to hear that [who's the best discussion anymore]. I want to know that anybody in the division … ‘you think that you can beat me? Hey Joe Silva, is he clear? Okay cool, let’s fight.’”

Mir recently snapped the arm of former UFC and PRIDE heavyweight champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, putting himself back in title contention and leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind who the better man is after back to back wins over the Brazilian. Could fights against the likes of Antonio “Big Foot” Silva and Josh Barnett be in Mir’s future?

Antonio “Big Foot” Silva aims to debut with the UFC in March

Alex Davis, the manager of former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio “Big Foot” Silva, has revealed the Brazilian heavy hitter should be good to go as early as March after recovering from shoulder surgery, adding he hopes it comes inside the UFC’s octagon.

Speaking via MMAWeekly.com, Davis said:

“What have I heard? As much as try to hear something, I’m still not getting any news back. But what I think, I anticipate Antonio being in the UFC. I think there’s a lot of great fights for him there. I think he’s going to be in the top five in no time there. Guess what? He has it. He’s the guy, he is top ten in the heavyweight (division) even though he took that loss from (Daniel) Cormier, which it is what it is, it’s MMA, but I think he’s going to fit like a glove in the UFC.”

“My timeframe is for March. That’s as far as I’ve managed to get, and it’s nothing definite. Antonio did just go through a shoulder operation cause he hurt his shoulder a little bit, and he had a lingering problem there so he took care of it. He’s going to be ready by the end of February. I’ve already informed the UFC and Strikeforce about it, and now I’m waiting for an answer. Joe (Silva), Sean (Shelby) and Dana (White), they’re busy people so I think in the next few days we’re going to find out. I’m hoping that Junior gets a big fight and personally I’m really, really hoping and pushing for it to be in the UFC.”

Silva was last seen inside the Strikeforce cage in September when he lost out in the promotions heavyweight grand-prix semi-final to Daniel Cormier. Prior to that he’d pulled off the biggest win of his professional mixed martial arts career, squashing Fedor Emelianenko for a second round TKO win.

Herb Dean wanted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to tap out before having his arm snapped

Top rated MMA referee, Herb Dean has been giving his thoughts on the recent UFC 140 clash between Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira that he officiated, explaining he wanted the Brazilian submission machine to tap out before having his arm broken.

Speaking via Sherdog.com, Dean said:
“In my mind, I was hoping that he would tap. Like, ‘Please, please make this easy for me. That looks like it’s on.’ I definitely [had a] heightened awareness at that time. I was really focused on that arm. But that’s how Antonio became who he is — he didn’t get there by giving up. That guy’s done things that everyone thought was impossible time and time again because he never gives up. I stopped it because I saw the arm break. The tap came after. I don’t stop it when I believe it’s locked on or even if I believe the guy’s in jeopardy because I don’t know what that person can take. I don’t know what their limits are, but if I see an injury that is too dangerous for the fight to continue, that’s when I’m going to stop the fight. Or if I see the fighter tap. He was very calm. He’s an exceptional person. Even during that, with coordinating with the physicians and him getting out of there, at some point he started taking an active role. ‘OK, Herb, I want you to help me up.’ He was pretty calm through it.”

Frank Mir became not only the first man to knock Nogueira out (back at UFC 92 in December 2008) but the first man to submit him as well with this excellent kimura dubbed one of the greatest submissions in mixed martial arts history by UFC President, Dana White.

UFC 141: Alistair Overeem's Drug Test Results Clean, Fight With Brock Lesnar a Go

It looks like most of the potential for the UFC 141 main event between Alistair Overeem and Brock Lesnar to fall apart over Overeem's "random" drug test has been put to rest. After initially submitting a blood test rather than urine, then a urine test after being told that blood was not the requirement and having both tests supervised by his private doctor without Nevada State Athletic Commission approval, Overeem was told that he'd have to fly to the UK to take a supervised urine test.

We were told to expect Overeem's test results back today and now Dana White has tweeted out:Overeem is ready to go!!! Lesnar vs Overeem is on!

I made a call to confirm that "ready to go" did, in fact, mean the test was clean and was told that it does.

As part of mishandling the original testing situation, Overeem will be tested again once he lands in the United States before the bout and will be tested after the bout (as is standard practice) as well as twice more randomly in the coming months.

Barring a completely unexpected failure upon landing in the States, UFC 141 is going to have its huge main event.

1. "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva" (February 2011): 741,000 viewers
2. "Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum" (June 2011): 624,000
3. "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson" (July 20011): 571,000
4. "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg" (January 20011): 561,000
5. "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley" (April 2011): 528,000
6. "Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal" (December 2011): 460,000
7. "Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson" (March 2011): 412,000
8. "Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov" (September 2011): 274,000

Lesnar tko 4 round.
Cerrone UD
Fitch UD
Matyushenko/Gus SD
