Worst wrestler: non è un wrestler ma se lo "merita" quel premio. Josh Mathews. Se non ci fosse mi guarderei Impact ogni settimana.
Worst tag team: Best Friends. Non mi hanno mai preso. Indifferenti. Al netto di Orange.
Worst match of the year: Taichi vs Yujiro Takahashi del Climax. Sicuro ci sarà qualcosa di peggio ma delle altre Fed ho quasi sempre guardato la roba consigliata.
Worst Cinematic Match of The Year: Money In The Bank. Potenzialità enormi, un paio di idee carine ma per il resto terribile. Ne ho comunque visti quattro-cinque in tutto tra WWE e AEW per quel che vale.
Worst main event: Lesnar vs McIntyre. Sono dovuto andare su Wikipedia per ricordarmelo.

Mi rendo conto che ho già faticato un macello così, ed ho poco interesse ad assegnare il Worst of 2020. Ad ora tengo così, poi al massimo aggiungo la seconda parte.

BEST OF 2020

Wrestler Of The Year: e cominciamo facendo 'sta follia, che se non ora quando. Yukio Sakaguchi non ha letteralmente sbagliato niente, né nel comedy né nei match seri, ha overperformato in maniera clamorosa e in mezzo ad Eruption sta benissimo. Anno da catalizzatore di interesse in DDT. Menzione d'onore per Tetsuya Naito e Tam Nakano, che vbb avrei votato sulla forza di essere la miglior cosa successa alla disciplina (ma le Cosmic Angels, bleah...).
Tag Team Of The Year: tentazione fortissima di votare Adam Page e Kenny Omega, che hanno fatto un signor anno... Ma su, sappiamo tutti che non c'ho voglia di votare la All Elite. I Dangerous Tekkers hanno fatto due match della madonna con i Golden Ace, mantenendo sempre alto l'interesse e tirando fuori un promone dietro l'altro. Se ho la mezza sensazione che questa categoria possa essere più rilevante del solito, il merito ad ora è loro. E qualcosa bolle in pentola per New Year Dash, forse?
Match of the year: fino a una settimana fa era Yuka Sakazaki vs Mizuki, madonna. L'ho adorato, dalle entrate al post-match, veramente qualcosa di meraviglioso. Però... Però poi è successo El Desperado vs Hiromu Takahashi. Che boh, ci son rimasto un po' male vedendolo ridotto ad un "incontro che fomenta" quando è molto di più, è il picco di una dinamica tra i due che si sviluppa da ormai un beeeeel po', ha tutta una serie di spot incredibili, gestione delle near fall ottime, lo smascheramento che si son giocati ora e che non potranno più ritirar fuori. L'ho chiuso ed ho avuto la sensazione di aver visto l'apice che può raggiungere l'incrocio tra questi due, per tanti motivi. Also, imho miglior match di Hiromu, specialmente a livello narrativo.
Cinematic match of the year: vabbé, ci son mille e mille cose che uno potrebbe votare, e forse dovrei vivisezionare i vari eventi di Rojo per trovare il nome giusto. Ma, su due piedi, Konosuke Takeshita vs Yoshihiko si prende decisamente la palma. Match che parte volendo parodizzare il Graveyard e diventa 'sta meravigliosa fusione tra un film horror amatoriale ed un match di wrestling, con un macello di spot meravigliosi tra Takeshita che perde un occhio (ciao WWE, lascia i credit nei commenti grazie) e guarisce grazie alle proteine (!) a Yoshihiko che prende fuoco, alla gestione di Yuki Iino, ai titoli di coda. Tutto questo come chiusura del Peter Pan night 1, con letteralmente il tuo ace. Quando si parla di anno deludente di Konosuke imho si guarda il dito e non la luna: certo, è rimasto lontano dal titolo massimo e gli manca il match costruito per essere un match della madonna, ma lui ha fatto qualcosa di staordinario anche in periferia, specialmente in questo lunghissimo feud che ha caratterizzato e reso unica tutta la prima ondata di TV Show. Menzione d'onore per il capolavoro che è stato il Firefly Funhouse Match di WrestleMania.
Feud of the year: Daisuke Sasaki vs Tetsuya Endo è un capolavoro, raro caso di soluzione di emergenza dieci volte più interessante del match originale. E poi vabbé, ha dei semi da DDT Is Coming To America 2019, ha avuto una gestione incredibile sia nel match che nel feud vero e proprio che nel post, con la scena di Sasaki che prova a rubare l'assegno che è già storia della disciplina. Però mentirei se dicessi che Tam Nakano vs Giulia non sia il feud di cui in questo momento di frega di più, in assoluto, proprio. Il capolavoro qui è stato riuscire a costruire una dinamica forte tanto quanto quella tra Arisa e Tam, che già era clamorosa e fuori di testa e irripetibile, ed in pochissimo tempo. Partendo proprio dalla quest per la White di Tam e dai richiami ad Arisa, per poi renderla "la sua cosa", un feud estremamente sentito e personale.
Face of the year: Takeshita lo abbiamo già nominato, Tam la abbiamo già nominata, Ibushi si meriterebbe pure una postilla. Ma per gusto e varietà vado sulla underdog definitiva che mi ha definitivamente convinto a seguire la Tokyo Joshi Pro, ossia Mizuki. Niente, la adoro, dentro e fuori dalla sua fantastica dinamica con Yuka. Also, è letteralmente il tipo di face che piace a me: è una underdog, è la persona più dolce del pianeta, ha come parte integrante del suo pg l'adorare gli hamburger, ma al tempo stesso ogni tanto bara e calpesta la gente e fa un intero match sul fatshamare Nodoka Tenma rendendolo la cosa più figa del mondo. Is this face tridimensionale, il mio tipo di face preferito?
Heel of the year: ok, questa è una questione piuttosto interessante. Nel senso che la mia mente va subito alla New Japan, ma: Jay White quest'anno ne ha saltato metà per Covid ed a Power Struggle mi son legittimamente girati troppo i coglioni per premiarlo; Taichi è sempre un bel vedere ma, se da un lato ha fatto bene alla divisione di coppia, dall'altro il suo personaggio travolgente ne è risultato un po' parcheggiato; El Desperado è esploso ma lo ha fatto tardi, e non è l'heel marcato che sento di voler premiare qua. In DDT discorso simile, Sasaki il suo meglio lo ha fatto "da face" ed Endo non mi ha davvero preso così tanto, mentre nel resto delle fed non c'è stato nessun nome che vorrei vagamente premiare. Problema enorme che vabbé, mi rimanda agli impeti di cuore: Taichi.
Rookie of the year: niente, sono arrivato qui convinto di votare SB KENTo, ma a quanto pare Cagematch considera il suo debutto ufficiale dal 22 Dicembre dello scorso anno. Certo, che sfiga. Pure Suzume, 2019. Ha debuttato Hideki Okatani nel 2020, ma figa, davvero mi fate votare Hideki Okatani? No. NEANCHE OMOS?! Daaaai, che due coglioni! Saya Iida 2019, vbb, non è che mi aspettassi altro. Dominik manco con un bastone, via da me. Mirai Maiumi, 2019. Boh, cioè, Sena Shiori ma solo perché è amica di Hikari Noa.
Newcomer of the year: ho visto un sacco di Maika, il che mi rende genuinamente allegro, ma... Mina ShirakAHAHAH Himeka. Per quanto io sia markone di Maika e Natsupoi (<3), Himeka da quando è arrivata in Stardom ha veramente fatto una prestazione meglio dell'altra. Ed i promo backstage, ed il carisma... Onestamente, se domani le mollassero le chiavi della fed non dico nulla. Pensare che l'anno scorso era a Trainspochatting ed ora ha fatto una finale di 5 Star GP quasi mi commuove.
Best female: l'una o l'altra? Perché una mi piace genuinamente di più, ed è parte integrante del mio interesse per l'altra, ma l'altra ha avuto più match grossi e spotlight. E quindi? E quindi Giulia, con la morte nel cuore perché vorrei davvero votare Tam o, al limite, Mizuki. Ma mentre la Nakano è lì a trascinare le altre due sulle sue spalle, Giulia anche all'infuori del FOTY ha sparato una serie di prove veramente interessanti, ed ha fatto passi avanti enormi anche a livello di carisma e tutto. Menzioncina d'onore per Sasha Banks, che continua ad essere la miglior cosa mai capitata all'occidente.
Best in-ring performer: non so, non è facilissimo quest'anno, per quel che ho seguito. Ho la sensazione che anche chi non ha sbagliato nulla non sia stato necessariamente messo nella posizione migliore per risaltare. Al che, se lo giocano Takeshita e Tetsuya Naito, che però fuori dal feud eterno con EVIL non ha davvero sbagliato un colpo (e già il primo ed ultimo match tra i due sono stati buonissimi). Diciamo pure che nel G1 ha cavato il sangue dalle rape, a tratti, il buon Tetsuya. Livello di maturità assurdo dopo un 2019 di alti e bassi.
Best on mic: Taichi è sempre un nome che pusherei, ma quest'anno con i Tekkers è risaltato meno. Naito al solito è stato fantastico, Hiromu pure, KENTA lo sopporto letteralmente solo per quanto cazzo sia bravo al mic. Sasaki è un altro che ha fatto una roba meglio dell'altra, Dieno poi... Però a 'sto giro vado con El Desperado, se non quest'anno mai più. Non è che il fatto che fosse bravo a parlare fosse un segreto, se uno fa mezza attenzione alle interviste, ma vederlo trovare più spazio e riconoscimento ha fatto solo che bene.
Best gimmick: non so. Son veramente diviso tra due fuochi. Da un lato Taichi, il tizio goth che lypsinca, si strappa via i pantaloni, fat-shama la gente ma lo usa anche come complimento (?) e ha ereditato un artiglio di ferro dentro il quale vive lo spirito del possessore; dall'altro Great O-Khan, che ha questo personaggio stupidamente over the top che interpreta benissimo, che urla durante le Mongolian Chop come il miglior Tenzan 3K e che ha ereditato i denti aguzzi del suo compagno di young lionaggio, il povero Kitamura. E poi vabbé, Yuka Sakazaki ha una gimmick della madonna. E Kazuki Hirata? E Danshoku Dieno? Madonna. Però niente, ci ho provato a votare O-Khan in qualcosa, che merita, ma Taichi. Letteralmente, avanti anni luce.
Most improved wrestler of the year: boh, cioè, tutti gli improved sono principalmente gente che già era brava ma ha avuto più occasioni per mettersi in mostra. Giulia, Despe, 'sta gente qua. Mei Suruga/Saint-Michel son sicuro che fosse già un fenomeno prima, che in ChocoPro due robe ho visto ma erano ottime. Sakaguchi pure, più che migliorato ha avuto più occasioni, immagino? Però un nome rimane. Jeff Cobb, che dopo un Climax che più anonimo non si può lo scorso anno qui si è rifatto con gli interessi, con una prestazione maiuscola più o meno da inizio a fine.
Event of the year: madonna, ci tengo agli eventi, ormai dò più peso a quello che ai match. Quale me porto nel cuore, da questo anno? Forse TJPW Wrestle Princess, che mi ha portato a seguire la fed in maniera fissa con un ottimo main event ed una bella, bella atmosfera finale. Sicuramente in-ring non si avvicina al Cinderella della Stardom, e manco di pezza al Peter Pan o ad Ultimate Party (che pure hanno avuto un bel finale davvero, "da evento"), ma si vede che semplicemente arrivavo a questo con più hype.
Promotion of the year: figa, non... Non lo so... La NJ e la DDT si son scambiate il mio cuore ad intervalli regolari, ciascuna a coprire i momenti di stanca dell'altra. Premiamo ancora la DDT per la gestione eccelsa della situazione Covid, e per la sua capacità di lanciarmi in un range più ampio di emozioni.

Moment/segment of the year: facile, il promo di Danshoku Dieno durante il secondo stop per Covid della DDT, poco dopo Judgement. La differenza tra un normale entertainer ed un mostro sacro, che sì ok fa tanto ridere ma è tra i wrestler più completi su 'sto cazzo di pianeta su cui stiamo.
Shocking moment of the year: sì, direi Jay White sconfigge Kota Ibushi a Power Struggle. Figa, se non me lo aspettavo.
