Qualche commento a semi-freddo dopo una decina di mesi in cui non ho colpevolmente seguito la NJ.

Malissimo il Kickoff, incontro che in realtà è pure sufficiente ma l'assenza della New Japan Rumble w/ Cheeseburger non può essere perdonata. La scelta di fare tre eliminazioni su quattro per School Boy Pin è... Singolare, immagino.

Su Ibushi vs Ospreay c'è da ricopiare pari pari il commento di Casper, ci sono degli spot che son meravigliosi (tipo lo scambio di ceffoni con Ibushi alla Mussolini) ma pure la sensazione che manchi qualcosa. Probabilmente una fase pre-finale degna di questo nome, non so. Mi dimentico ogni volta che quella porcheria è la nuova finisher di Will, quindi il pin finale m'è pure risultato più anticlimatico del dovuto. Gran match ma tutto sommato deludente, aspetto con ansia update sulla salute del Fenomeno.
EDIT: cristiddio, ti pareva. Spero non ci siano conseguenze, ma non posso fare a meno di rosicare per quello che sarebbe potuto essere.

Triple Threat Junior Tag senza infamia e senza lode, passerella per Shingo che devo ancora inquadrare. I Roppongi 3K continuano a piacermi un boato senza una ragione precisa.

Ishii-Sabre stranamente buono. Tomohiro bene o male è sempre lo stesso, ZSJ in New Japan è divertente quanto un match attuale di Tenzan ma i due si trovano bene e si vede. Ritmi alti, niente esasperazione di quelle cazzo di submission, bene così. Prima sorpresa in positivo della card.

Leggermente meglio del previsto pure il Triple Threat per le cinte Tag Heavyweight. Spezzo una lancia in favore di quei pirloni dei Bucks, che nella divisione Junior facevano sempre lo stesso match ma ora portano un po' di high flying e tag moves esasperate in una divisione che ne aveva ampiamente bisogno. Poi vabbè, Tanga Roa/Loa/Boa sembra leggermente migliorato e fa piacere (rimane un performer nullo, ma almeno lo vedo più sciolto nei movimenti e nell'uso del corpo), Tama ed EVIL si markano sempre a prescindere e SANADA il suo lo fa quando s'impegna.

Cody-Juice è un incidente ferroviario. A Rhodes il quinto match della card e Fale a mani vuote. Madonna, il fastidio. Almeno il tongano un match da sette all'anno lo tira fuori, e fa oggettivamente simpatia. Vabbè, robaccia incommentabile che si riassume in Brandi fa cose + finisher rubate (che cazzo di botch sull'Unprettier, Cody) + finisher vere + Juice che scorda cosa sia l'acting o come gestire i tempi in un match di wrestling e ci aggiunge due Pulp Friction totalmente casuali tra lo sticazzi generale.

L'entrata di KUSHIDA. Paura. Quella fottuta maschera sproporzionata sul bambino m'ha fatto pensare all'invasione aliena. Il match me lo aspettavo un filo meglio, Ishimori sembra 'bastanza figo ma ho avuto l'impressione che abbia un po' scazzato la fase finale, non so. Il campione in carica invece leggermente col freno a mano tirato, ha fatto di meglio. Quanto manca Hiromu, ragazzi (che spero torni il più presto possibile e negli Heavyweight, qui è sprecato).

Okada-White ampiamente sopra le aspettative, m'è piaciuto tanto. Nessun calo di ritmo, buona intesa tra i due, spot giocati con intelligenza. Non è che mi faccia impazzire l'idea di far tornare il miglior Okada e farlo comunque jobbare pulito, ma non mi lamento e rimango in attesa. Jay White per ora m'è sempre parso un performer solido ma senza picchi qualitativi, vediamo quanto vorranno pusharlo e come si evolverà la situazione. Moderato hype per il suo rematch con Tanahashi.

Opinione impopolare: Jericho-Naito non mi è piaciuto. L'ho trovato lento, noioso, vagamente scollegato, senza una narrazione decente alle spalle... Insipido. Non condivido l'entusiasmo per questo stint di Y2J in toto, tanto che non ho apprezzato nemmeno il match con Omega dello scorso WK. E non è che io sia necessariamente un fan dei ritmi alti, eh, ma io non ho davvero visto mezza roba interessante qui. A parte il finale, Naito che lancia via la cintura come nei tempi migliori e poi connette con la Destino è un momento altissimo che regala di diritto il 6,5 alla contesa.

Main event veramente d'alto livello. Omega commovente, la collaborazione con Fox e l'ingresso sotto le note di Hopes and Dreams da fan sfegatato di Undertale mi hanno ucciso (ma pure il costume di Kenny era tanta roba). Tana nei big match è una garanzia e stupisce ogni volta, non sente l'età. Spot memorabili, ritmi perfetti, citazioni, di tutto. In live ho cominciato a vaneggiare elogi fin troppo importanti, ora penso che si collochi appena sotto la mia idea di 9 su 10. E' mancato qualcosa nella fase finale di Tanahashi, forse. Ora aspetto updates su Kenny, passare da lui a White (con tutto il rispetto per l'australiano) sarebbe traumatico.

Daily Sports (Japan) is reporting that, during the backstage interview following today's Tokyo Dome match, Chris Jericho said he wants to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship next.

“I just lost the belt I took from Naito in June last year. It is a big mistake if you think that the time with me and New Japan Pro Wrestling will be over. I've kept the Intercontinental belt for the longest in 2018. So let me tell you, I want to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight belt, unreasonable or not.”

Even though his next run is yet undecided, Jericho further stated, “Tokyo Sports, the baseball magazine (Weekly Pro Wrestling) and the New York Times, they should all write it down, Chris Jericho will challenge the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and you will understand!”, before leaving the venue.

Ho visto solo Ospreay - Ibushi, Jericho - Naito, White - Okada e Omega - Tana.


#1 Ospreay - Ibushi: avevo l'hype a mille per l'intensità che i due wrestler hanno sempre dimostrato...ma non è stato completamente soddisfatto. è un ottimo match, soprattutto la fase sopracitata di Ibushi appeso a testa in giù, ma non ha tirato fuori le mosse sbalorditive che mi sarei aspettato. Ho preferito di gran lunga Ospreay - Takahashi di Dominion.

#2 White - Okada: buono, molto buono. Ero anche io scettico sul neozelandese ma dalla vittoria contro Omega per l'US Title ho capito che ci avrebbero puntato sopra. è acerbo ma si sta affermando, probabilmente non è ancora in grado di guidare un match ma lo può diventare. Soprendente non solo la vittoria in sè ma anche che la contesa sia terminata alla prima finisher: sono curioso se affronteranno in qualche modo il continuo annaspamento di Okada che non è stato interrotto nemmeno dalla ripresa delle sue vesti da Rainmaker padrone del Giappone.

#3 Jericho - Naito: oh, sarò nato e cresciuto col prodotto WWE ma mi sono piaciuti tutti i match di Y2J nel suo stint in NJPW. E Jericho fisicamente più forma rispetto a WK12 è un punto in più a favore del canadese e del suo cardio.
Adoro il selling di Naito, quella DDT sul tavolo dei commentatori è l'OMG moment della serata, pure Kevin Kelly sembrava geniunamente spaventato per il collo del giapponese (in casa LIJ non è così raro subire infortuni gravi, vero Hiromu?).

#4 Omega - Tanahashi: sono dispiaciuto, il match è fantastico ma marko duro per Omega e perciò desideravo che flirtasse un po' di più con lo stupendo regno di Okada. Capisco che la sua imminente free agency in attesa della prossima destinazione non potesse portare nessun altro esito a questo match ma ero straconvinto che Kenny si sentisse un giapponese a tutti gli effetti, sia come stile di vita che come apparteneza aziendale alla NJPW, proprio sulle orme dell'Ace e di Okada, ignorando possibili interessamenti della WWE. Staremo a vedere.

Ovviamente mi manca tanta roba che non posso recuperare per mancanza di tempo ma il feeling generale è stato di un attesa molto alta ma disattesa: quello che ho visto si pone al di sotto di Dominion e WK12.

Io questa edizione la metto sopra le ultime due personalmente. La 11 ha un main event fuori dal mondo, ma gli altri match principali sono sotto i tre di questa edizione, la 12 ha un undercard forse migliore, ma anche qui i tre match finali fanno la differenza.

One of the best Wrestle Kingdoms of all time, Dave believes that 2015 and 2018 were still better;

The trio agreed that the main-event was very good, one of the best of all-time and that Tanahashi is really the total package of the company; (OOC marking out)

While everything was good or even great, Cody v Juice sucked a bit because there was no intermission and people wanted a break and also the Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Match suffered because of the awesome Ospreay v Ibushi NEVER Openweight bout;

Jay White v Tanahashi seems like the main-event for February show since White beat Okada he deserves a championship match;

Ospreay's style is the future and with the NEVER Openweight it opens the door for a G1 appearance and for him to start being billed as a heavyweight, Will Ospreay will be known as "The Sky King" as a nickname and he is trying to start doing promos in japanese and Dave believes he will move to Japan permanently;

After the show Chris Jericho talked with Will Ospreay and gave him some advice regarding his matches;

No "losers" spoke on the conference post-show;

Wrestle Kingdom is now 2 days from 2020 on. Part of the reason was because the New Year's Dash is one of the most difficult tickets at the moment and they wanted a bigger building;

Sumo Hall as the venue for the Best of the Super Junior finals is very significant change since it's a bigger venue for an event that usually is on a small venue. And they will need great ideas for big matches to sell out those shows;

It doesn't matter if it's a work or not, Ibushi won't be on the New Year's Dash;

Will Ospreay is being portrayed as the top talent to watch in 2019;

Meltzer says that there will be at least one match over 5*;

The big question is what happens next with Kenny Omega;

New Japan looks like they are preparing as All Elite don't come back. It looks like Memorial Weekend will be the only show of the first half of the year for All Elite Wrestling and even if they have a TV Show and tapings, they can work both shows if the companies agree;

They don't have a TV deal at the moment but the negotiations are heading well and they have more than one offer;

They will need a heel since it's hard to replicate Cody as a heel main-eventer against his own promotion;

Fumi Saito wants Kenny Omega to remain in New Japan because he can main-event Tokyo Dome for the next 10 years, something that Stan Hansen and many others could never do. All Elite needs Kenny Omega more than Omega needs them since he can go to WWE and maybe have a better position than Finn Bálor has at the moment;

Sui match

They were surprised by not Suzuki-Gun not winning the pre-show match since they didn't start the match;

Shingo Takagi had the most presence of anyone in the junior tag team match and they are surprised how quick he is being noticed by the crowd;

It looks like it's the farewell of The Young Bucks unless something happens on January 5th in the meeting between New Japan and AEW;

SANADA & EVIL are set to become the new Kojima/Tenzan as the a tag team for the long-run, while it was an excellent match the Triple Threat for the heavyweight tag team belts would worked better if they got more time and not just 10 minutes;

There is no "screwy" stuff with the All Elite Wrestling and staying face, they all lost clean and they put over the other talent;

Brandi's interference wasn't needed and the beginning of the match looked a lot like Monday Night RAW stuff;

WWE seems to think that KUSHIDA is coming to the United States, and Meltzer asks why would he go to WWE, specially if he goes to 205 LIVE, and it's a different situation from Shinsuke Nakamura because he wanted to be come a worldwide superstar;

Okada came out of the match against Jay White like a superstar, and he worked like the old Kazuchika Okada, Meltzer thinks it was a super finish, an excellent match and Jay White needed this and it can be argued to be his best match so far, outside of his match against Juice at Cow Palace;

No surprise from Naito winning, and it was an outstanding match from the duo. Meltzer liked more the previous year match v Omega. With the 2nd Codebreaker spot there was a belief that he would win the match. Every-time Jericho wrestles it's like he writes a new song, designed to be special, like his look. It's hard to rate his matches because of this;

The main-event was incredible. The knee up spot on the High Fly Flow was amazing because Omega waited for the last second, it looked very convincing and very well timed;

- Amo Ospreay ma odio la sua gomitata dietro la nuca: unsafe.

- Quanto cazzo si pubblicizza male la RevPro. Ora, io seguo solo assiduamente la Progress perciò parlo con poca cognizione di causa, ma cazzo hanno una presenza social insignificante e assolutamente impersonale, ingiustificabile il palcoscenico offerto alla loro cintura (by the way, ti amo Zack, sei un performer della madonna). Stracontento invece per Referee Roberts.
