At least, that's what the Internet Wrestling Community is being made to believe foll0wing recent reports by hit-or-miss tabloid the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

"Not-Over-Gate" spilled over to SI.com, where Justin Barrasso reported that Vince McMahon felt Balor was bland without his Demon character, a concern I touched upon months ago.


Always a master of social media manipulation, Balor has pounced on the perception that "the man" is keeping him down. And for the product of New Japan Pro Wrestling, the timing for a dirtsheet story like this couldn't be better, and the potential payoff could be bountiful within a hardcore wrestling community that almost mindlessly rallies behind former prominent independent wrestlers.

In 2014, Daniel Bryan was the subject of similar reports of falling out of favor with WWE officials after his main event against John Cena at SummerSlam 2013 was publicly considered a "swing and a miss," in the words of Vince McMahon. WWE had no plans of pushing Bryan as a main eventer ahead of WrestleMania 30, which called for Batista to take on Randy Orton in a dreaded matchup that many fans rejected just as passionately as they begged for Bryan to be involved.

The rest, as they say, is history as Bryan—a legend on the independent wrestling circuit—rode the waves of a grassroots Yes Movement to main event a memorable WrestleMania that drew 75,167 to the Superdome—the fifth-highest attended WrestleMania in history at the time. WrestleMania 30 went on to generate over $142 million in economic impact for the New Orleans area.
The onset of social media and the information age, in an era where kayfabe is already dead, has created somewhat of an adversarial relationship between WWE and its most impassioned fans.

Pretending to know more about wrestling than Vince McMahon is a time-honored tradition among the Internet Wrestling Community. Nothing makes someone less popular than backstage reports that WWE officials are high on them. If WWE wanted to avoid its current uphill battle in making Roman Reigns a universal babyface, it should have just leaked "reports" that Vince McMahon felt Dean Ambrose was the next big thing.

Just as front-office favorites are often the source of animosity, nothing makes someone more popular with hardcore fans than backstage reports that WWE officials have soured on them, especially when that someone is a natural underdog with independent wrestling street cred the likes of Finn Balor.

Si può dare un giudizio, a patto che tu abbia la capacità di astrazione per separare il performer dalla gestione. Cosa che, a quanto pare, non hai.
